Remember that time that you hopped on a plane and flew across the country to work with some of the best photographers in the business, for this stunning Navy & Pink elopement inspired styled shoot, that turned into a wedding?? Oh, wait… that was ME!
Last August I was lucky enough to jet-set across the country, with my family in tow, to Phoenix, Arizona for what would be three incredible days plucked right out of my wildest dreams.
Once we landed in Phoenix, I was in love! The desert sky, the cactus, oh my goodness, this place was dreamy. It was only the beginning. Our hotel The Saguaro, was nothing short of awesome. This place was bright, fun & trendy (Bonus it was right next to the venue for our shoot). After making ourselves at home in our tricked-out photography hotel room, we ventured out on a adventure. Set in our sights- SEDONA.
Time travel was the name of the game for that day, the longest day ever. We left the east coast at 11 am est and landed at 10 am pst. Drove 2 hours to Sedona, spent 2 hours sightseeing (let’s save my new love for Sedona for another day), and then drove back another 2 hours to Scottsdale. 6pm approached and I made my way to The Sugar Bowl for our welcome event with the ever-amazing Amy & Jordan. Walking into The Sugar Bowl was like walking into a ’50s pink parlor with jukeboxes, metal-rimmed barstools and big mirrors. It is a Sugar-Junkie’s heaven! I’m talking big sundaes, cookie sandwiches, floats, moats, milkshakes and everything your little kid at heart would love to eat… shove. into. your. mouth. In the back room, where we ordered everything under the candyland castle, sat 15 new and friendly faces. We spent the evening gorging ourselves, deciding who knew blood splatter, Gilmore Girls, FRIENDS better than the next (ask Amy & Jordan, it’s their game), and talking like long lost friends! Then after hours of gabbing and reaching our sugar peak, we crashed hard at 11pm pst. Mind you east coast friends that it was now 2am the next day, hence longest day ever.
As the sun came up against the window of the hotel room, I quietly got ready to spend the day learning from the best of the best, trying my hardest not to wake my travel companions, and made my way to the venue. The Clayton On The Park is Arizona’s premier wedding venue. Stunning clean cut lines, white walls & modern floors, it is easy to understand why this is the coveted venue for the area. And here we are, all of us shooting in this space. Once we all got settled on the white modern couches with blue accented pillows and luxurious geometric chairs, we spent the day learning all the secrets of the AJ Workshop, and prepping to put those secrets to use on the next day, our styled session.
Day 2 we walked into The Clayton to dazzling table linens glistening against the huge wall to floor windows, fresh flowers and a ton of vendors. We took our seats and listened to the story of Trevor & Tasha, our models for the day. Listen to this! Tasha is a Phoenix Suns dancer. During a routine one night at a Suns game, Trevor stopped Tasha & the team in the middle of the performance at half time, in the middle of the game, and dropped to one knee, proposing to Tasha at the game in front of the team, coaches and fans. It was the surprise of a lifetime. At least until Amy & Jordan told us photographers that instead of just being models at the styled shoot, Tasha & Trevor decided to get married in front of us all at the shoot. We were now capturing their wedding day!
Take a look at Tasha & Trevor’s wedding day.
